The Finance Foundation is an independent centre for public policy research focused on the financial services industry. It is not a sector lobby group and has no political affiliations. To preserve this independence, The Finance Foundation seeks unrestricted funding from a broad range of sponsors.

The need

The UK lacks independent analysis and research on finance and its associated industries -- yet financial services industries are critical to the UK economy and its future growth. Financial services are also vital for the functioning of a modern economy. Despite this, they are often poorly understood, including by the legislators who set policy that shape how these industries are run and overseen.

The Finance Foundation aims to fill this gap by undertaking research and publicising the results to inform and influence the relevant stakeholders. In addition to research, we undertake public debates and events to help bring debates about the future of financial services into the open. Better policy decisions can lead to better outcomes for the general population as well as for specific groups, for example those excluded from mainstream financial services through poverty, disability, age, or education.

Our aims

  • To promote education for the public benefit in issues of finance, economics, growth and public policy
